Losing confidence in your self?

As Jesus and the disciples began to descend toward the mount, when his crucifixion was drawing near, Jesus said, in a tone of deepest sadness, "All you shall be offended because of Me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad." Matthew 26:31

But Peter protests, "Although all shall be offended, yet I will not." At another time,he said to Jesus, "I will lay down my life for your sake." But Jesus had warned him that he would that very night deny his Saviour. And again Jesus repeats the warning: "Verily I say to you, that this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, you shall deny Me thrice." But Peter in his self confidence "spoke the more vehemently, If I should die with you, I will not deny you in anywise. Likewise also said they all." Mark 14:29, 30, 31.

In their self-confidence they denied the repeated statement of Him who knew. When Peter said he would follow his Lord to prison and to death, he meant it, every word of it; but he did not know himself. He did not how evil his heart was and that circumstances would bring this to life. And when that time came, he denied his beloved Saviour! Have you ever repented and cried and promised God that you would never commit that sin again, but  later do that which you said you would not do?! I invite you to distrust yourself in a world that encourages you to trust your heart and whatever...but let's put our trust in Christ who is able to keep us from falling and also he's able to finish the good work He has began in our hearts!( Jude 24, Philippians 1:6). "..let all those that put their trust in you rejoice... because you defend them...(Psalm 5:11). But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31. No matter how many times we may have sinned and denied our God, He still loves us. Like his disciples, after His resurrection, they knew they were forgiven and they knew they were dear to his heart. And they put their confidence in him and what he could do for them. And so we have assurance when we come to him,he will forgive us and keep us from falling. May be it's time to lose confidence in our selves and trust God more and more!! Like Paul, we will say, I can do all things through Christ who Strengthens me!
